Thomas Price Obituary: South Carolina police report one fatality in crash involving dump truck and motorcycle.

A fatal accident occurred on Monday involving a motorcycle and a dump truck, resulting in the death of one person, as reported by the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Lance Cpl. Nick Pye stated that the collision between the two vehicles took place around 7 a.m. in Dorchester County.

The incident involved a 2022 Peterbilt dump truck traveling north on U.S. 17 Alternate, which collided with a southbound 2016 Yamaha motorcycle near the intersection with S.C. 61.

The motorcycle rider, identified as 25-year-old Thomas Price from Cottageville, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office.

Fortunately, the dump truck driver escaped unharmed, and there were no other reported injuries. The usage of safety equipment, such as a helmet for Price and a seat belt for the dump truck driver, remains unknown.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by the Highway Patrol. This incident marks one of the six fatal motorcycle accidents that have occurred in South Carolina since last Friday. According to the state Department of Public Safety, there have been a total of 318 fatalities on South Carolina roads in 2024, with 36 involving motorcycles.

In 2023, there were 1,030 reported deaths in crashes throughout the state, with 124 of them involving motorcycles, as reported by DPS. Dorchester County has already witnessed 11 fatalities in crashes this year, with 14 reported in 2023, according to DPS data.
