Harold Lafferty Obituary: Cocoa man fatally struck by freight train while attempting to cross tracks, according to police.

Harold Lafferty Obituary

The Cocoa Police Department has reported that a 55-year-old man was tragically killed on Sunday evening when he was struck by a freight train. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. in the 1800 block of Michigan Avenue.

According to Yvonne Martinez, spokesperson for the Cocoa Police Department, the man appeared to be attempting to cross the railroad tracks near U.S. 1, although that area is not designated as a crossing.

The conductor of the train confirmed this during interviews with the police. It is believed that the man may have misjudged the speed of the oncoming train.

The victim has been identified as Harold Lafferty of Cocoa, and his body has been sent to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.

This unfortunate incident marks the fifth train-related death in Brevard since January, with the previous four involving the Brightline passenger train. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
