A fatal accident occurred on Sunday afternoon in Pickens County, resulting in the death of a driver and injury to a passenger.

The incident took place on Calhoun Memorial Highway in Easley at approximately 12:20 p.m. The driver was struck by another vehicle while attempting to pull out onto Highway 123.

Unfortunately, the driver, who was not properly restrained, was partially ejected from the vehicle and despite efforts by EMS, was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased driver has been identified as 67-year-old Lemuel Owen Smith from Easley.

Both the passenger in Smith’s vehicle and the driver of the other vehicle were transported to a nearby hospital, and their current conditions are unknown. The Pickens County Coroner’s Office and the Easley Police Department are currently investigating the crash.
