Tampa police are currently investigating a shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of two men on Sunday morning.
Prior to 3 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 500 block of South Howard Ave following reports of gunfire.
Police noted that officers tasked with crowd dispersal and monitoring egress in the SoHo area were already present when the shooting occurred.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered three adult men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Police report that 28-year-old Kenneth Washington and 23-year-old Kevon Christmas were transported to a nearby hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.
Officials have notified their next of kin. The third victim of the shooting remains hospitalized with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, as per law enforcement.
Investigators have revealed that the individuals involved were acquainted with each other and had prior interactions before a dispute escalated.
Police detectives are currently endeavoring to identify the individual responsible for the incident. TPD confirms that neither officers nor other bystanders sustained injuries.
“My condolences go out to the families affected by this violence, particularly on such a day,” expressed Chief Lee Bercaw in a press statement. “Our officers, detectives, and crime scene technicians have been diligently collecting any potential evidence and pursuing leads in this matter.”
As detectives wrap up their investigation at the scene, authorities announce that all roads in the SoHo vicinity have reopened, and businesses are permitting employees to enter.
TPD indicates that the parking lots are anticipated to reopen shortly.
