Jared Bolden Obituary

The individual who arrived at Decatur-Morgan Hospital with a gunshot wound on Friday, at the age of 17, has unfortunately passed away. The police have identified this individual as the suspect in a fatal shooting that occurred on March 27.

The Decatur Police Department (DPD) received a report of a shooting on March 27 around 2:16 p.m. in the 900 block of 10th Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man, later identified as 23-year-old Jared Bolden, who had sustained gunshot wounds.

Bolden was immediately taken to Decatur-Morgan Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Detectives from the DPD initiated an investigation into the incident. Through their investigation, they identified the 17-year-old boy as the shooting suspect, although they were unable to locate him.

On April 30, Bama Pawn in Decatur reported a burglary, during which several firearms and other items were stolen. Detectives from the DPD, along with members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), launched an investigation into the burglary.

On May 3, DPD officers responded to Decatur Morgan Hospital after a male juvenile arrived with a gunshot wound. The Violent Crimes Unit of the DPD arrived at the scene and determined that the shooting had taken place on 7th Street Southeast.

The victim, who was later identified as the 17-year-old suspect in the March shooting on 10th Avenue, was transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, on May 5, 2024, the teenager passed away from his injuries.

A 14-year-old was identified as the suspect in the shooting that occurred on May 3 on 7th Street and was subsequently arrested. Initially, they were charged with first-degree assault and first-degree receiving stolen property. However, due to the victim’s death, the assault charge was upgraded to manslaughter.

“The vehicle in which the victim arrived at the hospital was reported stolen on February 3, 2024, from the 1800 block of Beltline Road Southwest,” stated the DPD in a release regarding the investigation.

The department has confirmed that Kaleb Kirk and three other juveniles were in possession of the stolen vehicle. Detectives also suspect that.
