17-year-old homicide victim found in California vineyard in 1979 identified

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.

Investigators have finally determined that the deceased body of a Pennsylvania resident who was found in a vineyard in California approximately 45 years ago was a cold case victim from Pennsylvania. The body was discovered in the vineyard.

According to a press release published by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the corpse of the victim was found by a vineyard worker in the neighborhood of 8th Street and Rochester Avenue on June 7, 1979.

The press announcement indicated that the discovery occurred approximately twelve minutes and twenty seconds after twelve o’clock in the afternoon. At the conclusion of the investigation, it was discovered that the female victim had been subjected to traumatic injuries, and it was determined that her death was the result of a homicide. Even though the woman did not have any identifying marks, such as scars or tattoos, the sheriff’s department had a strong suspicion that she was between the ages of six and thirty.

This was despite the fact that she did not have any of these things. In the end, the inquiry was unsuccessful, despite the fact that the authorities worked to uncover every available clue.

In the year 2023, the sheriff’s department made the decision to pick up the investigation and transfer DNA samples from the victim to Othram in the hopes of identifying the woman. Karen Heverly, who was born on January 27, 1962, was positively identified as the victim.

She was 17 years old at the time of her death for the crime. Othram utilized forensic genealogy in order to construct a comprehensive DNA profile, and he worked in conjunction with the sheriff’s department in order to verify the identification of the victim.

Heverly, who was born in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, reportedly left the house she lived with her parents in 1979 “under unknown circumstances.” This information comes from accounts that have been available. An investigation that is both current and continuing is still being carried out.
