Dennis Mulqueen Obituary: Coroner identifies man who fatally shot Ada County deputy

Dennis Mulqueen Obituary :

The identity of the man responsible for fatally shooting an Ada County sheriff’s deputy has been released by the Ada County Coroner’s Office. Dennis Mulqueen, a 65-year-old resident of Boise, died from a gunshot wound to the chest at Saint Alphonsus hospital early Sunday morning.

According to the police, Mulqueen shot Deputy Tobin Bolter on Saturday night in Boise. Bolter succumbed to his injuries at the hospital the following morning.

The incident occurred when Deputy Bolter had pulled over a vehicle near West Overland Road and North Raymond Street on April 20, just before 9 p.m. The suspect in the vehicle shot the deputy in the neck and fled the scene.

A witness who observed the shooting immediately called 911 and provided CPR to Deputy Bolter until medical help arrived. The injured deputy was then transported to Saint Alphonsus hospital.

The suspect’s vehicle was later discovered near South Dorian and West Roosevelt streets around 9:30 p.m., but no one was found inside.

During a confrontation with officers in the vicinity, Mulqueen was shot and killed. The police stated that although he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest amounting to $3,000, they are unaware of the motive behind his attack on the deputy. Mulqueen was found to be in possession of a handgun.

Law enforcement eventually located the suspect near a residence on South Jackson Street and attempted to persuade him to surrender. To ensure the safety of the community, a Code Red alert was issued to residents in the area, and officers personally notified neighbors as well.

Shortly after midnight, the suspect initiated gunfire towards the officers, prompting a Boise police officer to return fire and fatally shoot him. He was then transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
