In the interim, Anne McCoy will serve as the athletic director for Washington State.

It has been announced that Washington State University will be using a temporary athletic director. Anne McCoy, a senior woman administrator and senior deputy director of athletics, has been chosen as the interim athletic director at Washington State University (WSU) by President Kirk Schulz. This appointment comes as the university begins a search for a full-time replacement. On Wednesday, McCoy was appointed to the position, and he will continue to serve in that capacity until a permanent athletic director is selected.

“Anne is an outstanding administrator and a dyed-in-the-wool Coug,” Schulz stated in an interview. “With more than two decades of experience in the WSU athletics department, she is uniquely qualified to ensure that Cougar athletics continues to excel as we search for the university’s next athletic director.”

According to WSU, McCoy was directly responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of WSU sports before being named as the temporary athletic director. In addition to that, she served as the sports supervisor for the women’s basketball, volleyball, soccer, and rowing teams at WSU.

The position of assistant director was temporarily filled by McCoy in February 2010, following Jim Sterk’s retirement. Before Bill Moos took up the position permanently in April 2010, McCoy served as interim AD.

Pat Chun, who is leaving Washington State to become the athletic director at the University of Washington, is stepping down from his position, and McCoy is taking over for him.
