John Richard Lomax Obituary (1950 – 2024), A Life Dedicated to Service – Albany, New York

John Richard Lomax went away on the evening of Saturday, February 3, 2024, as a result of things that were occurring naturally. At the time of his passing, he had reached the age of 74 years. Henry Lomax and Margaret Lomax welcomed their son John Lomax into the world on February 4, 1950 in Albany, New York. John Lomax was named after his parents. In 1968, he received his diploma from Christian Brothers Academy, and in 1972, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Manhattan College. Both of these accomplishments occurred over the course of his academic career.

After that, he continued his education at Albany Law School of Union University, where he received his Juris Doctor degree in 1975. He attended that institution till he graduated. John was admitted to the bar in New York in the same year that he was admitted to the bar in Virginia. Both of these victories occurred in the same year. Furthermore, in 1977, he was granted permission to practice law before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, and in 1982, he was granted permission to practice law before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Over the course of his forty-six years of practice, John was employed as a lawyer in the state of Virginia. During the later stages of his professional life, he committed his time and attention to working as a guardian ad litem, which is a position that safeguards the rights of minors.

In his leisure time, John was a loyal fan of the New York Giants football team and a fervent supporter of the television shows Jeopardy, Shark Tank, and Judge Judy. He also enjoyed watching the New York Giants play football. In the closing moments of John’s life, his dog, Barney, was by his companion. Over the course of his whole life, John had been a pet owner.

After John’s demise, he leaves behind a number of people, including his devoted wife of 32 years, Anne, his two stepchildren Michael Davis (and his wife Courtney) and Jennifer Bangoura (and her husband Abdoulaye), his grandsons Jarrett and Max Davis, as well as Lillie and Alseny Bangoura, and his grandchildren. His sister, Laurie Mahady, who is married to Frank, his nephews Dave and Brian, who are married to Natalie and Stephanie, and five great-nephews and great-nephews are also among those who are left behind after his passing.

Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church of Princess Anne, which can be found at 2228 Princess Anne Road in Virginia Beach, Virginia, will be the location of a memorial ceremony that will be held on February 17, 2024 at two o’clock in the afternoon. The service will be held in honor of the departed. Instead of sending flowers, the family respectfully begs that memorial contributions be made to the Virginia Beach SPCA in honor of John. Thank you for your consideration of this request.
