Doris Garrett Obituary, Death, Australian Rock Band Midnight Oil Singer Peter Garrett’s Daughter Has Died

At The Residence at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee, on Friday, February 23, 2024, Doris Ann Pinson Garrett, who was 88 years old and from Springfield, Tennessee, departed this world. Doris Ann Pinson was born on August 5, 1935, in Robertson County, Tennessee, in Orlinda. Her parents, Walton Sterling “Doc” Pinson and Carrie Pauline Webb Pinson, both passed away before her birth.

Due to the fact that her parents were farmers, Doris Ann was raised to learn how to perform all of the farm tasks. At the age of eleven, Mary made the decision to embrace Jesus Christ as her Savior and was subsequently baptized in the Red River by Brother Bruce Ousley. As a follower of the Christian faith, she was active in the local church community in a variety of capacities, regardless of where she resided.

A member of the East Robertson High School Class of 1953, Doris Ann graduated from the school. During her time at East Robertson, she was a standout basketball player and captain of the team. At the same time, she was chosen to become a member of the DAR. Over the course of her first 49 years of life, Doris Ann spent her whole existence in Robertson County. After getting married to Lieutenant Colonel Othur E. Garrett, she relocated to Paducah, Kentucky, in the year 1985. She had a passion for gardening and being a homemaker while she was residing in Paducah.

It was in May of 2012 when she relocated back to Robertson County, following the passing of her husband. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters. Her parents and spouse were also deceased. The Lord, her family, and her friends were all things that Doris Ann cherished deeply. She was a housewife. In the years leading up to her decision to become a homemaker, Doris Ann held positions such as secretary at Greenbrier First Baptist Church, bookkeeper and dispatcher at Better Block Company, and real estate agent at G.S. Moore & Son.

As a hobby, she enjoyed quilting, genealogy, and being a historian. Additionally, she was a devoted supporter of the University of Tennessee Vols. She was a volunteer hostess at The Doctors House in Cross Plains and had been a member of the NorthCrest Medical Center Auxiliary for a significant amount of time. On the 22nd of April in the year 1990, the Newport News Alumnae Chapter sprung into being. Later on, she joined the Denbigh Alumnae Chapter of same sorority and eventually became a charter member of the chapter.

Mother Garrett and her traveling companion, Yvette, were able to travel extensively across the United States of America and Canada, as well as cruise to a number of Caribbean islands, despite the fact that Mother Garrett was particularly uncomfortable with flying. She was the family genealogist and played a significant role in ensuring that the rest of the family was aware of both our maternal and paternal relations. Her parents and one brother, Nelson Palmer, passed away before she did. His passing came first.

She is survived by her daughters, Ramona G. Beach of Hopewell, Virginia; Debbie G. Cook of Williamsburg, Virginia; and Yvette M. Garrett of Hampton, Virginia; her sons, Floyce N. Garrett, Jr. of Washington, District of Columbia; Duane A. Garrett, Sr. of Stone Mountain, Georgia; and the Reverend Wesley R. Garrett of Richmond, Virginia.
