Carl Rollins, a former Deputy with the Kentucky State Police, passed away last night while he was accompanied by his family. We pay respect to him with sorrowful hearts. Between the years 1977 and 1997, Deputy Rollins worked as a Deputy Sheriff in the territory of King George.
At a time when the Kansas City Sheriff’s Office did not have any detectives, he was known for his abilities to investigate and solve crimes, as well as his love for his job. Deputy Rollins was a passionate outdoorsman who enjoyed activities such as turkey hunting and racing vehicles while he was not on duty.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Carl’s family and friends as they go through this trying time. We are carrying them near to our hearts. In the year when he was three years old, his family relocated to Green River, Wyoming. During his earlier years, Carl became involved in the Boy Scouts of America high school athletics and dramatics programs. He received his high school diploma in the year 1937. After receiving his diploma, Carl had positions as a switchman and crew caller for the Union Pacific Railroad. He then went on to pursue higher education at both Brigham Young University and the University of Wyoming.
In 1942, Carl responded to the call to service received by his country by enlisting in the United States Army. After completing his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, he went on to attend Officer Candidate School at Fort Belvoir in Virginia, where he eventually rose through the ranks to become a second lieutenant.
After completing the balance of his military service, he was assigned to the Aviation Engineers in Burma, where he was eventually promoted to the rank of Captain. Carl returned to his studies at the University of Wyoming after serving as the Undersheriff of Sweetwater County, Wyoming, for a period of one year following the conclusion of the war.
Despite the fact that Carl’s coaches were concerned about his age, he was allowed to participate in football as a walk-on. What transpired was that he was able to secure a starting place for three consecutive years and was chosen as the team captain during his senior year.
There was only one game that the Cowboy football team lost during that season, and they ended up winning the conference championship. After leaving Maryvale High School in 1969, he went on to become the head football coach at Glendale Community College. In 1982, he finished his coaching career at Mesa Community College, where he was the defensive line coach.
Coach Rollins placed a high importance on the work ethic, and his players more than made up for their lack of height and skill by maintaining a tenacious and never-give-up mentality. The legacy he left behind by influencing the lives of young men speaks for itself.
