James Hathaway Obituary, Death, A Life Lived with Passion and Purpose

 On Monday, July 31, 2023, James W. Hathaway, 67, of Troy, departed this life and entered into eternity while surrounded by his devoted wife in the comfort of his own home. He was the adored husband of Tammy Thomas-Hathaway for 34 years and the son of the late Melvin and Catherine Cramer Hathaway.

He was born in Troy. Jim worked for King Fuels for more than 35 years. He then went on to work for John Ray and Sons, Polsinello Fuels, and R.J. Valente, where he ended his career.

Along with his siblings Melvin, Thomas, and Maryann Hathaway, Jim is survived by his wife Tammy, children Faith Santana, William, Hope, and Floyd Hathaway, and siblings. His brother George Hathaway Sr. and sons James Jr., Frankie, Teddy, and Charles Swanson all predeceased him. Jim also leaves behind a large number of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Jim was so proud to be married to his beloved and cherished wife and soul mate of 57 years, Sharon, and from their love, Jim and Sharon were blessed with children, Sherry and Bob Ruby, Jim and Kathy Hathaway, Sue and Paul Neel, Tony and Charity Hathaway. Blessings continued for Jim and Sharon with 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Mike was a successful salesman for the majority of his career. He began by selling fasteners, nuts, and bolts over the years before transitioning to selling vehicle body parts.

Mike coached the Council Bluffs Warriors baseball team as a volunteer in the 1990s. He read a great deal. Hundreds of additional novels in his personal library and not a single Stephen King book that he has not read.
