It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Glen Roy Thacker, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Glen passed away on February 23, 2024, at the age of 80, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to his family and community.
Glen was born on April 18, 1943, in Estill County, Kentucky, to the late Robert and Callie Dickerson Thacker. He grew up surrounded by the beauty of Kentucky’s countryside, and from an early age, he exhibited a strong work ethic and a deep sense of compassion for others. Throughout his life, Glen remained deeply connected to his roots and cherished the memories of his upbringing in Estill County.
A Life of Service and Volunteering
Glen was a proud Kentucky Colonel, a title that reflected his commitment to serving his community with honor and distinction. He found great joy in volunteering at nursing homes, where he brightened the lives of residents with his kindness, compassion, and musical talents. Glen’s selfless dedication to helping others left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Music played a central role in Glen’s life, and he found great pleasure in playing his favorite tunes for family and friends. Whether strumming his guitar or singing along to old-time melodies, Glen’s musical talents brought joy and laughter to those around him. He also had a special fondness for spending time with his grandbabies, whose laughter and smiles brought light into his life.
Cherished Family Bonds
Glen’s greatest source of pride and joy was his family. He shared a deep and enduring love with his late wife, Jessica Thacker, and together they created a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Though parted by death, their love continues to live on in the hearts of their children and grandchildren. Glen leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire and uplift all who knew him.
His memory will be forever cherished by his son, Robert Thacker; daughters, Sueann (Chris) Morgan and Glenda (Jeff) King; brothers, Kenneth (Barbara) Thacker and Jimmy (Sue) Thacker; grandchildren, Dakota Thacker, Christopher Morgan, Asiah (Zach) France, Caleb Morgan, Tanner Morgan, Callie Rose Morgan, Daniel Bartels, Calvin Bartels, Kaitlyn Rose Bartels, Lexi King, David King, and Tori Jasser; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
