Bertin Miller Obituary, Heartfelt Farewell To Bertin Miller – Death

With sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Bertin Miller, OFM. Br. Bertin’s journey was one of unwavering faith, dedication, and selfless service to others. As we mourn his loss, we celebrate the profound impact he had on the lives of those he touched and honor his legacy of love and compassion.

Br. Bertin, born in Joliet, Illinois, on [birthdate], answered the call to serve as a member of the Order of Friars Minor on June 21, 1956. He devoted his life to the Franciscan values of humility, simplicity, and service, making his simple profession on June 22, 1957, solemn profession on June 22, 1960, and receiving ordination to the priesthood on January 19, 1964.

Ministering with Compassion

Throughout his ordained life, Br. Bertin served with compassion and dedication in various ministries within the Franciscan community. He spent the majority of his years at Il Ritiro Retreat Center in Dittmer, Missouri, where he touched countless lives as a counselor for troubled youth and, later, as the center’s director.

His commitment to guiding and supporting others extended beyond the retreat center, as he served as an assistant chaplain at St. Anthony Hospital, an instructor at St. Elizabeth Academy, and in various leadership roles within the Third Order in Chicago, Quincy, and St. Louis.

A Heart for Service

Br. Bertin’s service extended beyond the confines of traditional ministry, as he dedicated himself to addressing the needs of the marginalized and vulnerable in his community. He played a pivotal role in the Evergreen Hills Homes Charitable Foundation and the Wounded Brothers Program, demonstrating his deep commitment to social justice and compassion for those in need.

As a member of the Provincial Council for the Sacred Heart Province, Br. Bertin provided invaluable leadership and guidance to his fellow friars, embodying the Franciscan ideals of servant leadership and fraternity. His roles as vicar, guardian, and assistant provincial director further exemplified his dedication to the Franciscan community and its mission of spreading God’s love and peace.
