Alan Meyers Obituary Greencastle PA, Alan Meyers Has Died

Alan Hoge Meyers, 73, passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, June 22, 2023. Alan was a truly godly man who loved the Lord and faithfully conveyed God’s love and grace to others with his warm personality, caring and encouraging heart and quick wit. Alan was not only devoted to his family; he was also a faithful friend who took time to stay in touch often. He was a true shepherd to friends and family alike. Alan’s love, wisdom, and laughter will be greatly missed by all! Alan was the only child of Dorothy K. (Hoge) and Francis Emil Meyers on November 2, 1949 in Brookfield, Missouri.

In Loving Memory: A Fond Farewell to a Life Well-Lived:

The Meyers family soon moved to Dallas, Texas. Here Alan attended Hyer Elementary and Highland Park High School, making many lifelong friends. He went on to graduate from The University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. In 1976, Alan received his Juris Doctor from UT Law School. From 1971-1978, Alan was privileged to serve as First Lieutenant in the Texas Army National Guard. During his years in Austin, he also worked as a tour guide at the Texas State Capitol, and as a part-time security guard at the Delta Delta Delta sorority house.

Celebrating a Legacy: Honoring the Remarkable Journey:

It is here that Alan met the love of his life and future bride, Nancy Mitchell. Nancy and Alan were married on July 31, 1976 and lived in Austin until 1978 when Alan accepted a position in the Midland law firm of Cotton, Bledsoe, Tighe, and Dawson, serving first as an associate and then as partner. In 1996, he left to become partner with Morgan, Leeton, and Meyers where he remained until moving to private practice in 2004. Alan served on numerous boards in the community, including High Sky Children’s Ranch, where he served as President.

Farewell to a Beloved Soul: Reflecting on the Life:

He was a member and President of the Midland County Bar Association, and member of the Texas State Bar Association. He also enjoyed serving as a board member of Texas Prevent Blindness Association and the Midland Fireman’s Relief and Retirement Fund Board.

Alan served as an elder at Midland Bible Church, and later at First Presbyterian Church, where he co-taught an adult Sunday School class, with beloved friend, Lynn Durham, Jr. He was one of the founding members of the Men’s Community Bible Study of Midland, serving as a core leader, associate teaching director, and Area Director.

In Memoriam: Remembering the Grace and Strength:

He was a Trustee of the National Community Bible Study Board, as well as serving on the National Evening Servant’s Team of CBS. Nancy and Alan raised three children in Midland, all attending Hillander School through Midland High. He was very proud of all three, and attended each of their extracurricular activities and sport events whenever possible. Besides following his children’s activities, Alan was a voracious reader, Bible student, loyal fan of the Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys, and never missed working his crossword puzzles. He had a fantastic memory and sense of humor.

Cherished Memories: A Tribute to the Extraordinary Life:

He and Nancy had traveled overseas to Israel, Italy, and most recently a fabulous cruise of Canada and New England. Alan is preceded in death by both parents. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Meredith Moffett (Wes) of Hurst, TX; daughter, Courtney Lyon (Justin) of Midland; son, Mitchell Cutler Meyers (Paige) of Knoxville, TN; granddaughters, Phoebe and Jovi Lyon and grandson, Asher Lyon, all of Midland. “Pops” will especially miss watching his precious grandchildren grow up.
