Robert “Bob” George Eihusen’s death on January 29, 2024, was a devastating blow to the Grand Island community. Those lucky enough to have known Bob will never forget his unfaltering commitment, enormous generosity, and carefree demeanor. His legacy will last forever. Consider the remarkable path taken by a guy whose life exemplified loyalty to one’s community, leadership, and the transformative power of love.
A Life of Leadership and Legacy: Bob’s Journey
From his time as CEO of Chief Industries until his retirement, Bob’s life was a story of outstanding leadership. Chief Industries owes a great debt of gratitude to Bob for his visionary leadership, which laid the groundwork for the company’s remarkable growth, longevity, and stability. The enduring success of the family business, which Bob’s father Virgil started in 1954, is a tribute to Bob’s foresight, knowledge, and relentless pursuit of perfection.
His legacy will last for years to come because of his dedication to business responsibility and innovation. Bob faithfully served his nation and his community from 1971 to 1977 in the Air and Army National Guards, a proud display of his devotion to both.
Involvement in and Contribution to the Community
Bob made substantial contributions to community groups and boards in a variety of capacities during his distinguished career. His support for both the business world and healthcare was on full display as a member of the St. Francis Medical Center Foundation’s President’s Circle and the business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi. He was a member of the Nebraska Association of Commerce and Industry’s Political Action Committee and the Past Director of the Farm Building New Advisory Board before being appointed to the Nebraska Diplomats by Governor Kay Orr. Bob had an everlasting effect on the community, and his influence went well beyond the business world.
His commitment to community service and the friendships he made during his adolescence were evident in his active membership in the Jaycees. In 2002, Bob was honored for his exceptional achievements when he received the Alumni Achievement Award from Wayne State College. He furthered his dedication to community sports and healthy living in 2005 as the General Chairman of the Cornhusker State Games. As evidence of Bob’s clout in the legal community, Governor E. Ben Nelson included him in the Supreme Court District 5 Judicial Nominations Commission in 1993. A dedication to comprehensive community development was evident in his far-reaching influence, which extended from manufacturing to healthcare.
Remembering Bob with Love: His Enduring Characteristics
Those who knew Bob best will remember him not only for his professional accomplishments, but also for the unique qualities that made him special. His character was marked by kindness, patience, and a willingness to help anyone. The offbeat demeanor and biting wit of Bob Eihusen, who lived by “Eihusen Time,” are traditions that his children have continued. Similar to “MacGyver,” his resourcefulness allowed him to fix nearly anything; he frequently scoured Ace Hardware for necessary materials. It was clear that Bob loved the outdoors, as he was a passionate fisherman and hunter. His passion for adorning festive spaces, which might often veer towards “Clark Griswold” excess, was a reflection of his delight in crafting unforgettable moments.
