On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, the world bid farewell to a remarkable soul, Mr. Allan J. Komar Sr., 73, of Duryea. As he peacefully passed away at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Plains Township, his departure left a void in the hearts of his daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his brother. Let us come together in thoughts and prayers to support the family during this time of sorrow and celebrate the life of a man who touched the lives of many.
Born in Duryea to Joseph (Jessie) and Anna Chipko Komar, Allan’s roots were firmly planted in the community that would later mourn his loss. He navigated his formative years and graduated from Pittston Area High School, carrying with him the values of hard work, resilience, and a commitment to service that would define his life.
Allan’s journey of service extended beyond the local community to the national stage. In the spirit of duty and patriotism, he served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War. His commitment to the principles of honor, courage, and commitment, ingrained in the hearts of those who serve, reflected the character of a man who dedicated a part of his life to safeguarding the freedoms of his fellow citizens.
Prior to his well-earned retirement, Allan contributed his skills and dedication to the Tobyhanna Army Depot. His commitment to excellence in every task became a hallmark of his professional journey. Colleagues and comrades knew him as a reliable and steadfast individual, qualities that endeared him to those he worked alongside.
Allan’s spiritual foundation was nurtured at Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Duryea. His affiliation with the parish spoke to a deeper connection with faith, community, and the values that guided his life. The fellowship of the parish community provided solace and strength, and his presence within its walls was a testament to his commitment to his spiritual journey. Beyond his professional and spiritual endeavors, Allan actively participated in the fabric of veterans’ associations. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 0274 in Gouldsboro and the V.F.W. Post 1227 in Duryea. Through these organizations, he found camaraderie with fellow veterans, sharing experiences, and contributing to the welfare of those who had served alongside him.
Outside the realms of duty and service, Allan found solace and joy in the simplicity of life’s pleasures. A keen enthusiast of the outdoors, he enjoyed the pursuits of hunting and fishing. These activities not only connected him with nature but also provided moments of reflection and tranquility amid life’s hustle and bustle.
The weight of grief is further heightened by the loss of Allan’s son, Allan Komar Jr., who preceded him in death. In this shared sorrow, the family carries the memories of a beloved son, brother, and father who, undoubtedly, holds a cherished place in their hearts.
