Georgina Monk Obituary, A Life Well-Lived and Fondly Remembered – Death

Georgina “Gail” Monk, peacefully bid farewell after a courageous battle with cancer at Hanover and District Hospital on Friday, January 18, 2024. A pillar of strength, Gail was 77 years old at the time of her passing, leaving behind a legacy of love, community service, and family values. Gail was born in Hanover on April 20, 1946, to the late Clifford and Jennie (nee Mazur) Ruhl. Her roots ran deep in the community, and many knew her from her dedicated years working at M&M Meats. Her love for her family and the farm was evident as she spent years raising her boys alongside her husband, Everek. Gail instilled essential values in her sons, shaping them into the men they are today.

Community involvement was at the heart of Gail’s life. A tireless volunteer, she dedicated her time to various causes, including the Kinettes, the Parkinson’s Group, and as a devoted member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Elmwood. Her commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others endeared her to many in the community. Gail leaves behind a legacy of love and family devotion. She is survived by her sons, Steven (Janet) Monk of Shelburne and Glenn (Kim) Monk of Marl Lake, who remember her not just as a mother but as an honorary grandmother and great-grandmother. Her siblings, Brenda (Bruce) Kaufman of Hanover and Vincent Ruhl of Alma, also cherish the memories they shared with Gail.

In addition to her immediate family, Gail will be fondly remembered by her in-laws, Becky Monk of Hurkett, Doris (Larry) Milligan of Allan Park, Susan McDermott of Milton, and Kathleen (Doug) Monk of Exeter.

Numerous nieces, nephews, and their families join in the remembrance of Gail, celebrating the impact she had on their lives. Gail was predeceased by her beloved husband, Everek, sister-in-law Kelley Ruhl, and brothers-in-law Murray Monk and Rob McDermott. Despite these losses, her spirit and the love she shared continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew her.

To honor Gail’s memory, family and friends are invited to a visitation at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Elmwood on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, from 10:00 to 11:15 am. A private family interment will take place in Hanover Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations to the Parkinson Society, Saugeen Hospice, or a charity of your choice. These acts of kindness will serve as expressions of sympathy and contribute to causes close to Gail’s heart.

The arrangements are entrusted to the care of Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, reflecting the community’s support during this difficult time. As Georgina “Gail” Monk rests in peace, her enduring legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched and the love she shared.
