On February 7, 2022, the community of Fargo mourned the loss of a beloved member, Raymond (Ray) Mickelson, who passed away at the age of 82 at Sanford Medical Center. Surrounded by his loving wife and daughters, Ray left behind a legacy of dedication, service, and a successful career in finance. Born on March 21, 1939, in Perth, ND, Ray’s journey was marked by academic achievements, military service, and a fulfilling family life.

Ray Mickelson, the son of Henry and Anna Mickelson, grew up in Perth, ND. After completing his high school education in Rolla, ND, he pursued higher education at North Dakota State University. In 1965, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture with a focus on Economics, Soils, and Farm Management. Ray’s commitment to education and continuous learning laid the foundation for a successful and impactful career.

Ray joined the North Dakota National Guard and underwent training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, and Fort Riley, KS. Serving for a total of 6 years, with 5 years in the Cando, ND unit and an additional year in the Army Reserves, Ray demonstrated his dedication to his country. His military service not only instilled discipline but also shaped his character, traits that would later contribute to his success in the professional world.

Ray Mickelson embarked on his financial career in 1965 when he joined the Production Credit Association (PCA) as a Loan Officer in Grafton, ND. His hard work and dedication led to his appointment as the Branch Manager in Cando, ND. In 1973, Ray’s career journey took him to Grafton, ND, where he assumed the role of Credit Manager. Over the years, he held various positions within the organization, showcasing his expertise and leadership in the finance sector.

In Cando, on May 11, 1968, Ray Mickelson exchanged vows with Joanne Eggl, marking the beginning of a lifelong partnership. The couple was later blessed with two daughters, Margo and Roxy. Ray’s commitment to family was as strong as his commitment to his professional endeavors. His role as a loving husband and father added depth to his character, and he leaves behind cherished memories for his family to hold close.

Raymond Mickelson’s legacy extends beyond his professional achievements; it encompasses a life marked by service, commitment, and love. Whether in his military service or his contributions to the financial sector, Ray left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of knowing him.
