Mary R. Bigford, age 81, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, following a brief stay at the Crouse Community Centre in Morrisville. She was a resident of Earlville Road in Earlville. Her birthday is February 23rd, 1942, and she was born in Oneida. Someone who is the daughter of Carrie (Reese) Cook and Harold Ira Cook.Mary received her high school diploma from Earlville High School.
Her marriage to the man who would become the love of her life, Gary L. Bigford, took place on November 21, 1959; he passed away in 2006. Until her retirement in 1999, Mary worked for the United States Postal Service for close to thirty years. Mary was an extremely creative person who also had a strong interest in sewing and refurbishing antiques. She was frequently seen in the fabric shop with her cousin Sharon Crain, who was also her sewing instructor.
She was there on many occasions per week. After some time, Mary decided to create a fabric shop in her house, and she took great pleasure in the extended visits that she received from her family and friends who frequented her business. Mary’s four grandchildren were the source of her greatest delight in life, and she made it a point to attend as many of their games and activities as possible over the course of their younger years.
Everyone was welcome to come and stay at Mary’s house since she was always up for a good time, she enjoyed going to new places, and she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.Following the death of Gary, she travelled to Vieques, Puerto Rico, with her cousin Lee, in order to spend the winter months in the warmth with her cousin Douglas. This journey lasted for a decade.
Over the course of the past few years, she has taken pleasure in spending her time on her porch, rocking away the day and catching up with her friends who would stop by. The following individuals are among those who are still alive: children, Dereck (Wendy) Bigford of Cicero, Traci (David) Buys of Lyons, and Jody (David) Holcomb of Hamilton; grandchildren, Blaine Holcomb of Tennessee, Rachel Holcomb of Colorado, Max Bigford of Skaneateles, and Josh Bigford of Cicero; sister, Linnie Cook of Morrisville; brother-in-law David Muhlfeld of Earlville; nieces, Paula Godfrey of Sherburne.
Carey Kohli (Mike) of Rome, and Delaney Cook of New Hartford; sister-in-law and husband Sandy and Chet Holbrook of Colorado; brother-in-law and wife Rick and Ophelia from Texas; and brother-in-law Raymond Bigford of Hamilton. Additionally, she is survived by a closest friend for life, Sharon Poissant, who resides in New Hampshire. Her two brothers, Raymond and Wayne Cook, as well as her sister, Georgena Muhlfeld, and a close friend, John Ryan, all passed away before she did.
