In the quiet moments of January 13, 2024, surrounded by the warmth of his family, Clevis James Cormier, known affectionately as Mr C, peacefully departed this world at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Born on October 15, 1958, Clevis left behind a legacy of passion, dedication to his craft, and a profound commitment to community service.
Clevis’s professional journey was a testament to his love for the outdoors and his dedication to nurturing the beauty of nature. For approximately three decades, he served as a landscape contractor and horticulturist, proudly owning and operating Mr C’s Complete Lawncare. His career was not merely a means of livelihood; it was his calling, and Clevis took immense pride in every aspect of his work.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Clevis was a humble and devoted family man. Over 45 years of marriage, he shared a deep and abiding love with his wife, Lisa. Together, they navigated life’s joys and challenges, creating a home filled with love, warmth, and the laughter of their children. Clevis is survived by his daughters, Erica (Daniel) Glynn, Whitney Cormier, and son Matthew Cormier, a testament to the enduring bonds of family that he held dear. His legacy further extends to his grandchildren: Spencer Cormier, Emilie Glynn, Michaela Glynn, Addisyn Glynn, and Michael Belleau.
Clevis’s family circle includes his mother, Nevis Cormier, and siblings Janet (Larry) Smith, Cindy (Walt) Fairchild, and Doug (Cheryl) Cormier. His love and influence also touched numerous nieces and nephews. The loss of Clevis’s son, Clevis (C.J.) James Cormier Jr., and sister Evelyn Andre before him, created voids in the family’s heart. Clevis rejoins them in the afterlife, preceded by his father, Elphege (Flooge) Cormier.
Beyond the walls of his home, Clevis was deeply woven into the fabric of his community. For 15 years, he served as a dedicated member of Pointe Coupee Fire District 4, exemplifying his commitment to public service. In this capacity, Clevis rose to the position of Fire Chief, a role he undertook with a sense of duty and responsibility towards ensuring the safety and well-being of his community.
Clevis’s commitment to nature extended beyond his professional life. A passionate beekeeper, he found solace and joy in tending to his bees. This love for nature and a sense of spiritual guidance led him to worship at the First Baptist Church of New Roads, where he found a community that mirrored his values.
To honor and celebrate Clevis’s life, funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of New Roads on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, starting at 9 am, with religious services commencing at 12 noon. The interment will follow in St. Frances Cabrini Cemetery in Livonia. Pallbearers, including Matthew and Spencer Cormier, Daniel Glynn, Walt Fairchild, Brandon Gueho, and Dwayne Prejean, will carry Clevis to his final resting place. Honorary pallbearers, MeMe Meche and Doug Cormier, will stand in tribute.
The loss of Clevis will be deeply felt by both his family and the community he served. His kind and caring nature, his unwavering dedication to his craft, and his sense of duty to others will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Janell LaCombe Cancer Fund, a cause that resonates with Clevis’s commitment to supporting others in times of need.
