It is with heavy hearts and tearful eyes that we share the news of the passing of Tina Annette Hessels, one of Belwood’s most cherished long-time lodgers. Tina, who radiated warmth, joy, and love, left us on Monday, January 8, 2024, peacefully at Alexander Marine and General Hospital at the age of 56. Her departure has left a void in the hearts of all who knew her, especially her friends at Belwood Lodge and Camp.
Tina was more than just a lodger; she was the embodiment of kindness, spreading joy and positivity wherever she went. Her infectious smile, kind words, and teddy bear hugs were a trademark greeting that endeared her to everyone at Belwood. Over the decades spent at camp, Tina became a beacon of friendship, creating a sense of camaraderie that made Belwood feel like a home away from home.
One of Tina’s most remarkable qualities was her ability to bring joy to those around her. Whether she was engrossed in crafting, proudly displaying family photo albums, taking a refreshing dip in the pool, or showcasing her unforgettable dance moves, Tina’s presence added a vibrant and uplifting energy to Belwood. Her love for life was contagious, and her genuine enthusiasm left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who shared in her company.
Tina’s departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, and her absence will be keenly felt by her friends at Belwood Lodge and Camp. The memories of her laughter, the warmth of her hugs, and the twinkle in her eye when dancing will linger as a testament to the beautiful soul she was. In the tapestry of Belwood’s history, Tina’s chapter stands out as one filled with love, friendship, and unwavering positivity.
In celebrating Tina’s life, her obituary provides a glimpse into the vibrant person she was a daughter deeply loved by John and Wilma Hessels of Goderich, a dear sister to Patricia Roetcisoender (Richard) of Auburn and Susan Crump (Bob) of Elgin, a loved aunt to Katelyn (Jake), Greg (Allison), Melissa, Danny, and a great aunt to Myles. Tina’s extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends share in the collective grief of losing such a bright and loving soul. Her passing was further marked by the loss of her great niece, Lyla, a poignant reminder of the fragility of life.
A celebration of Tina’s life is scheduled to take place at Trinity Christian Reformed Church on Mill Road in Goderich on Monday, January 22, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Friends are invited to pay their respects from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow the service. A spring interment at Maitland Cemetery will provide an opportunity for loved ones to bid their final farewells.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorial donations to either the Friendship Group at Trinity Christian Reformed Church or to Belwood Lodge and Camp, at 322 Third St. Belwood, ON N0B 1J0. These contributions will serve as a fitting tribute to Tina’s memory, supporting the organizations that held a special place in her heart.
