On the somber day after Christmas, tragedy struck the East Oakland community as 22-year-old Camilla Dayanna Sanchez lost her life in a fatal accident on Interstate 880. The young woman was identified by the coroner’s office on Thursday, though her city of residence remains unknown.
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on December 26 when Sanchez attempted to run across the northbound lanes of Interstate 880, situated between High Street and 66th Avenue.
In a devastating turn of events, she was struck by a pickup truck in the lane closest to the center divider. Despite emergency response efforts, Sanchez succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The pickup truck driver, who remained on-site, has been fully cooperative with investigators from the California Highway Patrol.
