Shooting at Citadel Mall Colorado Springs
Those who own The Citadel Mall in east Colorado Springs are being sued by the family of a teenager who was shot and left paralyzed at the shopping center a year ago. The lawsuit alleges that the firms who own the mall engage in security methods that are below acceptable standards.
According to the allegations made in the lawsuit, the ownership of the shopping center failed to implement sufficient safety measures despite being aware of at least six shootings that occurred at The Citadel in the six-and-a-half years leading up to a disagreement that resulted in gunfire near the food court of the shopping center on May 12, 2022.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, an undercover surveillance operation culminated in a gunshot in the Burlington Coat Factory, which resulted in the death of a teenager.
This occurred just two weeks before the lawsuit was filed. During the afternoon of April 3, the police were pursuing a group of five individuals who had arrived at the shopping center in two vehicles that had been stolen.
On that particular day, Makayla Anderson, who was 12 years old at the time, was shopping at The Citadel mall. She was waiting for a ride home when she was struck by a bullet, which caused the lower half of her body to become paralyzed.
The Citadel Mall has been the site of numerous incidents of gun violence in recent years, and this particular shooting is just one of those incidents.
