Deanna Robles was a devoted leader of Child Care Providers United (CCPU) and an esteemed member of SEIU Local 99’s Executive Board. Her passing is announced with profound regret. Deanna was a Delegate for Family Child Care Providers on the Executive Board of SEIU Local 99 for three terms starting in 2018. In 2021, she was also part of the team that negotiated the historic first contract between the state of California and childcare providers.
Additionally, Deanna served as a delegate for SEIU Local 99 at the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor. Deanna was an early supporter of CCPU and helped organize numerous providers to establish their unions because she believed in the transformative power of unions. Before her current position, Deanna was a Trustee for the CCPU Health Care Benefits Fund and had stints on other CCPU Labor Management Committees.
Education was also very important to Deanna. This experience prompted her to pursue a career in family child care, and she ran a successful daycare in Baldwin Park, California, for sixteen years.
She has a strong personal obligation to help our nation’s special education kids, who are among the most marginalized, achieve academic and social equity because she is a mother of a child with special needs.
Because of this, she decided to run for public office and eventually became a board member for the Baldwin Park Unified School District. Many members of our SEIU Local 99 / CCPU Family were moved by Deanna’s passion, dedication, and advocacy.
