John J. Lordan Obituary, Passed Away Peacefully At The Genesis Nursing Home In Marmet, WV

At the Genesis Nursing Home in Marmet, West Virginia, John J. Lordan, 85, quietly departed this life on December 15, 2023. John grew up in Sterling, Illinois, but he was born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 25, 1938. Love, devotion, and service are the legacies he leaves behind. John had great pride in his Irish ancestry and treasured times spent with loved ones remembering simpler times. People who were lucky enough to know him loved him for his friendliness and warmth.

John had a successful career in his working life. His knowledge and experience were invaluable to Volkswagen of America in his role as purchasing agent in South Charleston, West Virginia. His career path has taken him to Gary, Indiana’s The Budd Company, Mendota, Illinois’s Conca, Inc., and Bettendorf, Iowa’s J.I. Case Company. John also worked in Charleston, WV, for Northwestern Mutual as an insurance representative.

St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa is where John received his Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration, demonstrating his dedication to furthering his education. In his role as director of national affairs for the National Association of Purchasing Managers, he achieved even greater prominence. A patriotic American, John served for six years in the Army, both on the front lines and in the reserves. He had a strong sense of honor and responsibility, and it showed in his devotion to his nation.

Tragically, John’s sister Anne Lordan Coerver, and parents Lucille Grennan Lordan and John Stephen Lordan have all passed away. His 61-year-old wife Diane Schowalter Lordan and their three children—Kathleen, Douglas (Karim Ruiz), and Michael—are his surviving relatives. Nathan, Ryan, Kara, Enrique, and Alberto are John’s five grandkids. On Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in South Charleston will have a memorial mass honoring John’s life.

One hour before the service, there will be a visitation. Donations to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or any charity of your choosing would be greatly appreciated instead of flowers, according to the family.

The South Charleston, West Virginia, funeral home Snodgrass Funeral Home is compassionately handling the arrangements. We will always hold John in our hearts as a symbol of a life well-lived, full of love, service, and treasured memories. He deserves to be at peace forever.
