Darlene Kay Clarey, a beloved resident of Shelbyville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2023, at the age of 79. Born on June 20, 1944, in Sturgis, Michigan, to Irvin and Maxine Minger, Darlene’s life was a testament to love, creativity, and unwavering dedication to family.
On July 11, 1964, Darlene married Firmer Ralph Clarey, marking the beginning of a 59-year journey filled with shared joys and cherished moments. Their union blessed them with two beloved children, Anthony and Patty. Darlene’s legacy lives on through her adored grandchildren: Jacob and Adam Clarey, Taylor and Logan Everett, and Madison Everett.
Darlene’s life was characterized by service and creativity. As a lifelong beautician, her artistic talents and ability to connect with people shone brightly. Beyond her career, she extended her caring nature by working in the Shelbyville schools’ kitchen and at the Plaza Boutique, where she became beloved by colleagues and customers alike. Darlene’s hands were seldom at rest; she was a lifelong seamstress and known affectionately as the “cookie lady,” showcasing her passion for creativity and generosity.
Preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Donald Clark, son-in-law Don Everett, and sister-in-law Charlene Minger, Darlene leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. Her brothers, David, Danny, and Doug Minger, mourn her passing along with her devoted husband and children.
A private family service will be held to honor Darlene’s life and celebrate the countless memories she created.
