Floy Mauk Obituary, A Precious Soul Gone Too Soon

In loving memory of Floy Kathleen Mauk, a remarkable special education teacher and lifelong Wichita, Kansas native, who peacefully passed away on December 12, 2023, at the age of 72. Floy’s legacy is one of compassion, dedication, and a profound love for the environment and animals. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on May 20, 1951, Floy found her forever home when she was adopted by Harvey Mauk and Sibyl York-Mauk of Wichita, Kansas, in 1953.

She was a graduate of Wichita East High School in 1969, and her pursuit of knowledge led her to attend Newman University and Wichita State University, where she earned a master’s degree with a focus on education. Floy is survived by her mother, Sibyl Jeanette York-Mauk; her daughter, Christina Elizabeth Penn; her brother-in-law, Christopher Clark Penn; and many friends and family who were touched by her kindness and warmth. She is predeceased by her husband, Benjamin Franklin Penn, Jr.

Throughout her life, Floy demonstrated a deep love for the environment, becoming an early adopter of recycling and a passionate advocate for sustainable living.

Her commitment extended to the well-being of animals, and she was a dedicated contributor to the Kansas Humane Society. Floy’s green thumb was evident in her vibrant garden and flourishing house plants, reflecting her appreciation for nature’s beauty.

To honor Floy’s memory, the family will conduct a memorial service in the spring of 2024, with details to follow. In lieu of flowers and cards, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her memory to the Kansas Humane Society.

Contributions can be made online at https://kshumane.org, a cause close to Floy’s heart. As we celebrate Floy’s life and the positive impact she had on those around her, let us remember her with gratitude for her kindness, passion, and unwavering love for the world she inhabited.
