Robert Burney Obituary, Lowville, NY State Police Trooper Has Passed Away

Public worker and well-loved family man Bob Burney passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023, with his loving family by his side. He was 57 years old. The world welcomed Bob, a man of unwavering dedication, selflessness, and love for his community, on December 17, 1965. Before Bob graduated in 1984, his last stop was at New Hartford High School. He attended Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) in 1986 and Utica College in 1988, finishing his degree.

Due to my academic accomplishments, I am qualified for a position in the public sector. Bob began his illustrious career in March 1989 when he enrolled in the 165th Basic School of the New York State Police. For nearly 30 years, until January 2017, he gallantly served with Troop D. The 9/11 World Trade Center site was one of the places where his courage and commitment were on display. Regrettably, this undertaking triggered the cancer that would eventually claim his life.

All over the nation, Bob had an impact. After Sandy and Katrina, he was the one to lead relief operations in Louisiana and New York City. He volunteered at the New York State Fair, demonstrating his dedication to the community. Bob relished the opportunity to reconnect with his former NYSP colleagues over dinner, talking about the friendships they had formed and the wonderful times they had worked together.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Carolyn (Sue) Burney, Gene Burney, Ellen (Robert) Dickerson, Denise Kraeger, Brandon (Burney), Collin (Burney), Trenton (Burney), and Noah (Burney), as well as numerous other relatives and friends. His father, Eugene Burney, had passed away, and he was his son.

On Wednesday, the community is invited to attend calling hours hosted by Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services at 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Thursday at 11:00 AM will be the funeral mass at the St. Patrick-St. Anthony Parish Church, which is located at Oneida St., Chadwicks. They will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held in the summer of 2019 at Inlet’s St. Anthony’s Church. You need to give us more details.

As per the family’s wish, in lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Bob can be donated to the American Cancer Society, the New York State Troopers Signal 30 Fund, or Lewis County Hospice. The continuation of Bob’s charity organizations is made possible through donations made in his memory, carrying on his legacy of kindness and generosity.
