Irvin Gellman Obituary, Forever In Our Heart Irvin Gellman

In the wake of profound sadness, we share the heartfelt announcement of the passing of an extraordinary man, Irvin Gellman. He departed from this world last night, succumbing to kidney cancer at the age of 92. Irvin faced the challenges of this illness with resilience, undergoing surgery that initially showed promise. However, his recovery proved arduous, and he ultimately succumbed to the relentless grip of the disease.

Irvin Gellman was more than a father; he embodied the essence of a mensch—a person of integrity and honor. His warm-hearted nature, infectious sense of humor, and unwavering generosity endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. As a successful entrepreneur, Irvin’s journey in business ranged from childhood endeavors like bagging peanuts at Browns and Indians (Guardians) games in Cleveland to establishing a thriving pharmacy and later venturing into a wholesale giftware company with his wife upon their move to San Diego nearly 35 years ago.

For his grieving family, Irvin was a source of inspiration and a calming voice during life’s challenges.

His wisdom, love, and support were constants that shaped not only the family dynamic but also the lives of those he touched. In a poignant reflection of his character, his final words to his loved ones were a timeless piece of advice: “Do the best you can do. That’s all you can do.”

The funeral services to honor Irvin Gellman’s life will be held at the Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego at 2:15 pm on Wednesday, 12/6. Following the service, guests are invited to pay their respects to the family at Congregation Beth Israel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable donations be made in Irvin’s honor to institutions close to his heart: Ohio Northern University – College of Pharmacy, Guide Dogs for the Blind (San Rafael, CA), and Rancho Coastal Humane Society (Encinitas, CA).

As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, may his memory be a source of peace and inspiration, and may his legacy endure through the lives he touched and the lessons he imparted. Love, always.
