Mr. George Lambert McGee, aged 86, departed this life on November 29, 2023, at 8:02 PM, at Tristar Greenview Regional Hospital in Bowling Green, KY. His passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt by family, friends, and the community he cherished.
Born on July 18, 1937, in Trousdale County, TN, George was the son of the late William Thomas McGee and Elvie Lee Johns McGee. He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters, a son George Allen McGee, a stepson David Ray Wright, and a grandson David Kyle McGee.
A visitation to celebrate George’s life will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory. The visitation will continue on Sunday, December 3, 2023, from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM, with funeral services scheduled for 2:00 PM on Sunday. Burial will follow at Hillsdale Cemetery in Simpson County, KY.
George is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Janelle Finn McGee, and his legacy continues through his children: Kevin McGee of Hartsville, TN; Daryl McGee of Michigan; Jerry McGee of Harrodsburg, KY; Kim Voland of Wabash, IN; Crystal McGee of Columbia, TN; Jaclyn Milam of Bowling Green, KY; and Jenna Akin of Franklin, KY. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A faithful member of Woodburn Baptist Church, George found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including fishing, chopping wood, and the soul-soothing melodies of country music. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests expressions of sympathy be directed to Hillsdale Cemetery, ℅ of Cliff Spears, 1130 Roark Road, Franklin, KY 42134.
