James “Cody” Burkhalter Obituary, Death – 58-Year-Old Man Passed Away Unexpectedly on April 29, 2025

James “Cody” Burkhalter, age 58, passed away unexpectedly on April 29, 2025. Born and raised in Blackshear, Georgia, Cody was the son of the late Robert Cecil Burkhalter. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Burkhalter; sister, Denise Burkhalter; and niece, Shundra Vickery.

Life and Legacy
Cody is survived by his loving wife, Tami Holland Burkhalter; his children, Joshua Burkhalter (Haley) of Blackshear, Christopher Brown (Catie) of Alma, Hannah Duncan (Eric) of Brunswick, Christy Tatum (Stacy) of Alma, and Alana King (Tyler) of Mershon. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren—Cassius Brown, Lilly Burkhalter, Conner Bramlett, Katie Jackson, Haley Bramlett, and Terry Bryant—and a great-grandfather to Jackson White.

He also leaves behind his mother, Colleen Crawford Burkhalter of Patterson, and his sister, Shane Vickery (Lyndell) of Patterson. Cody dedicated many years of his life to serving others. He was the General Manager at Jerry J’s in Waycross for numerous years, earning respect and admiration from colleagues and customers alike.

Community Impact
Cody was also a devoted member and deacon of Jamestown Baptist Church, where his faith and kindness inspired many. A native of Blackshear, Cody graduated from Pierce County High School in 1985. His passions extended beyond his work and faith; he loved spending time outdoors, especially searching for shark’s teeth—a hobby he cherished and enjoyed sharing.

Memorial Service
A memorial service honoring Cody’s life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Jamestown Baptist Church, located at 3800 ABC Ave., Waycross, GA. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 PM until the service begins, providing an opportunity for loved ones to gather, share memories, and celebrate his remarkable life.

Conclusion
Cody’s legacy of faith, kindness, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him. His spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he loved and helped along the way. The community will miss him dearly, but his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched.
