Tragic Three-Vehicle Crash on Whites Creek Pike Claims Lives of Two Young Men, Andy O. Hernandez and Jonathan J. Palafox-Pacheco, Leaving Families and Community in Mourning

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE – A devastating three-vehicle crash on Whites Creek Pike early Thursday morning resulted in the tragic loss of two young lives, Andy O. Hernandez, 22, and Jonathan J. Palafox-Pacheco, 20, both from Springfield, Tennessee. The incident has left their families, friends, and the community in shock and grief.

According to Metro Nashville Police (MNPD) detectives, the crash occurred around 7:50 a.m. when a Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 70-year-old Robin Bernard of Portland, Tennessee, was traveling south on Whites Creek Pike. While navigating a curve near Sycamore Creek Road, Bernard veered into the northbound lane, colliding with a GMC Sierra pickup truck.

A dump truck, which had started braking after witnessing the crash, was unable to stop in time and struck the Malibu. The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in the tragic loss of two young lives.

Palafox-Pacheco died at the scene, while Hernandez was transported to Skyline Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Bernard sustained life-threatening injuries and was also taken to Skyline Medical. The GMC’s driver and passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were treated at the same hospital. The dump truck driver was not hurt.

Investigators found no evidence of impairment among any of the individuals involved, but the crash remains under investigation. According to Smokey Barn News, Hernandez and Palafox-Pacheco were on their way to the airport in an Uber for a spring break trip when the accident occurred.
