Julian Comeaux obituary, death, 21, Fatally Shot in Midtown Houston While Confronting Car Break-In Suspect: Family Seeks Justice and Community Calls for Action Against Rising Crime

A heartbreaking incident occurred in Midtown Houston, claiming the life of 21-year-old Julian Comeaux. Comeaux, affectionately known as “the bean” by his family, was killed while attempting to stop a car break-in near the intersection of Bagby and Hadley. The tragic event has left his family and the community reeling, seeking justice and calling for action against the rising crime in the area.

_Incident Details and Investigation_

According to the Houston Police Department (HPD), Comeaux and his friends confronted a man attempting to break into one of their cars. The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, and the suspect fired shots, killing Comeaux and injuring another individual before fleeing the scene. The shooter is described as having dreadlocks with yellow and gold tips.

HPD is actively investigating the incident, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. The department is asking individuals to contact HPD Homicide at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS, where callers can remain anonymous.

_Family’s Plea for Justice_

Julian’s mother, Larisha Sellers, expressed her grief and devastation over the loss of her son, describing the experience as “empty” and “broken.” She called for justice, stating, “We are seeking justice. Fight. Sweat, blood, and tears.” Sellers, who was told she would never be able to have children, referred to Julian as a “miracle baby.”

“I just want justice for my baby,” she said, struggling to comprehend the tragic loss. “I just don’t understand it. No mother should have to lose a child.”

_Julian’s Legacy and Future Plans_

Julian had plans to enlist in the Navy, following in his mother’s footsteps in serving the country. Those plans, however, were shattered by the violence that led to his untimely death. Instead of preparing for a future in the military, Julian’s family is now forced to make funeral arrangements.

His cousin, Janesha Sellers, recalled Julian’s character, describing him as someone who would approach others with compassion and concern. “Julian is the type of person that he can see you doing something wrong and he wants to talk to you instead,” she said. “Like, ‘hey, man, what’s going on with you? What you need, you know why? Why are you going to do this? You don’t have to do this.'”

_Community Concerns and Rising Crime_

The community has been shaken by the shooting, and residents are expressing growing concerns about the prevalence of vehicle break-ins in the area. Phillip Taylor, a resident of a nearby apartment complex, shared his own experience with car break-ins, revealing that his vehicle had been targeted multiple times.

“Yes, my car has been broken into about three times,” he said. “I’ve lived in this building for five years now. And as you know, crime is going to be commensurate with the population. We live in the fourth largest city in the nation. Sometimes crimes, you know, it’s better to keep your head on a swivel and have a little bit of discretion, which is going to be the better part of valor.”

HPD’s preliminary crime data for 2024 indicates a concerning trend in motor vehicle thefts and thefts of vehicle parts. The department recorded nearly 58,801 such incidents, showing a slight increase from the previous year’s figure of 58,451. However, a spokesperson for HPD emphasized that these statistics may not be final, as the data is still being compiled.

_Call to Action and Prevention_

As the community mourns the loss of Julian Comeaux, it is essential to acknowledge the rising crime in the area and take proactive measures to prevent such incidents. Residents are urged to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activity, and take necessary precautions to secure their vehicles and property.

The family of Julian Comeaux and the community are seeking justice and calling for action against the rising crime in the area. As the investigation continues, it is crucial to support the family and work together to create a safer and more compassionate community for all.
