Ronald Duncan obituary, death,Fatal Pedestrian Collision in San Francisco’s Mission District: Ronald Duncan, 64, Identified as Victim

A tragic incident occurred in San Francisco’s Mission District last weekend, resulting in the death of 64-year-old Ronald Duncan. The fatal pedestrian collision happened early Sunday morning, at 2:43 a.m., near 16th Street and Rondel Place, just west of the 16th Street Mission BART station.

According to the San Francisco Police Department, Duncan appeared to be lying in the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported Duncan to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, but no further details about the driver’s identity or actions have been released. The investigation is ongoing.

This fatal incident has raised concerns among local pedestrian safety advocates, particularly the nonprofit organization Walk San Francisco. In a statement, Walk SF expressed their condolences to Duncan’s family and emphasized the need for improved pedestrian safety measures on 16th Street.

The area where the collision occurred has seen four pedestrian fatalities in the past four years, with a dangerous stretch of 16th Street between Valencia and Harrison streets being particularly notorious. Jodie Medeiros, the executive director of Walk SF, stressed the urgency of addressing the dangers on the street and the need for city leaders to prioritize pedestrian safety.

“City leaders must do everything to prioritize ending these tragedies,” Medeiros said. “Everyone walks or rolls in our city, and every pedestrian death is preventable and a reminder that more must be done to keep all of us using our streets safe.”

The incident highlights the persistent issue of pedestrian safety in the city, and advocates are pushing for changes to prevent further fatalities. Walk SF has long been an advocate for safer streets and is calling on the city to implement measures that would help protect pedestrians.

San Francisco police are continuing their investigation into the crash and have asked anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Individuals can contact the SFPD tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip via text message to TIP411 with “SFPD” at the start of the message.”
