Obituary, Death: Zequi Poole, Victim of Jahmanuel ‘Manny’ Barber, 20, Who Pleaded Guilty to Manslaughter and Attempted Murder, Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison Without Early Release, Long History of Criminal Behavior, Including Armed Robbery and Violent Incident Shortly After Release from Prison.
Jahmanuel “Manny” Barber, a 20-year-old from Riviera Beach, Florida, has pleaded guilty to charges of attempted murder and manslaughter with a firearm.
Barber’s criminal history began at a young age, with his first felony conviction at 17.
He was sentenced to 14 months in jail for tampering with his ankle monitor, participating in an armed robbery, and evading the police.
After completing his sentence on May 4, 2022, Barber was released from prison.
Just over a month later, on June 26, 2022, Barber allegedly shot at the home of his sister’s former boyfriend, injuring a man named Dontae Lurry.
Lurry, who was struck in the back, identified Barber as the shooter.
Barber’s aunt, Zequi Poole, was also killed in the incident.
Circuit Judge Scott Suskauer sentenced Barber to 30 years in prison under a plea deal.
Barber’s sentence does not allow for early release, meaning he will serve the full 30 years and be around 50 years old when he is eligible for release.
Barber’s long history of criminal behavior, starting in his early teens, has led to a lengthy prison sentence and a lifetime of consequences.
