Lisa Fakis Obituary, Death: Senseless Assault Claims Life of 49-Year-Old Lisa Fakis, Suspect Laverne Sealey in Custody with Bond Set at $140,000, Wilmington Police Department Investigating Tragic Incident.
Lisa Fakis, a 49-year-old woman, tragically lost her life in a senseless assault on October 24. The suspect, 31-year-old Laverne Sealey, is now in custody with bond set at $140,000.
According to court documents, witnesses saw Sealey drawing hearts with her initials on dusty car windows nearby shortly before the assault. The Wilmington Police Department reported that officers responded to an emergency call around 9 p.m. in the 200 block of North Lombard Street after receiving multiple 911 reports of an unresponsive woman.
Upon arrival, officers found Fakis bleeding heavily from head injuries. Police attempted to assist her, but Fakis tragically died at the scene. Detectives found two areas with notable bloodstains nearby, indicating where Fakis was attacked.
Witnesses told police that Fakis had managed to walk some distance from where she was initially assaulted before collapsing. Through several witness accounts, authorities were able to reconstruct the events that led to the attack.
According to these statements, residents saw a Black woman, later identified as Sealey, walking through the area just before the incident. Sealey was wearing navy-blue scrub-style pants, a black hooded sweatshirt, bright red lipstick, and a brown wig.
At one point, Sealey placed items from her belongings into two separate cars and used her finger to draw in the dust on the vehicles’ windows, leaving hearts and her initials, “LS.” Witnesses further reported seeing Sealey briefly read a book before she suddenly attacked Fakis in what was described as a “senseless” assault.
It remains unclear whether Fakis and Sealey knew each other or what may have led to the altercation. Witnesses said Sealey punched Fakis repeatedly in the head, then dragged her both into and out of the street. Witnesses also noted that Fakis’ backpack was taken by Sealey during the attack.
Afterward, Sealey left the area, while Fakis, severely injured, staggered incoherently toward the bystanders before collapsing. Officers arriving at the scene found Fakis lying near the area where witnesses had seen her fall.
Following these accounts and descriptions, police relayed Sealey’s appearance to patrol officers on duty. Moments later, officers spotted a woman matching the exact description — wearing red lipstick and attire similar to that described by witnesses — walking along Front Street.
Officers detained Sealey due to outstanding warrants and then brought her back to the crime scene for witness identification. Witnesses at the scene recognized Sealey as the individual responsible for the attack on Fakis.
An arrest warrant indicates there may have been a second person, a man, possibly involved in the incident, though further details are still under investigation.
