Jonathan A. Beason Obituary, Death – Texas Man Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting on I-70
A fatal shooting occurred during a traffic stop on Interstate 70 early Monday morning, resulting in the death of Jonathan A. Beason, a 37-year-old Texas resident . The incident also left two deputies from Callaway County injured, with one undergoing emergency surgery and the other scheduled for surgery later in the day .
The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified Beason as the deceased suspect, and the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office reported that the two deputies were shot during the morning hours on westbound I-70 . According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy initiated a traffic stop on Beason at mile marker 139 at 3:35 a.m., and a second deputy arrived shortly after .
The Missouri State Highway Patrol stated that Beason was shot and killed following an exchange of gunfire with the deputies . Beason had several felony warrants from out of state, and when the deputies attempted to apprehend him, he resisted arrest . Shortly after, shots were fired, and both deputies sustained gunshot wounds .
Both deputies were transported to a local hospital and are currently in stable condition . The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, and a firearm was recovered by investigators at the location of the incident . Law enforcement agencies from Boone and Callaway counties, along with police departments from Fulton and Columbia, responded to assist following the shooting .
Westbound I-70 in Callaway County was closed during the investigation, but the Missouri State Highway Patrol announced that the eastbound lanes of I-70 had reopened, while westbound traffic was being redirected at the 144-mile marker . The incident is currently under investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol .
