David Wilkie death ,Solo Motorcyclist, Tragically Passes Away in Accident on State Route 299: A Comprehensive Investigation Underway
On October 2, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the CHP Redding Communications Centre alerted units of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Trinity River Area to a motorbike accident near State Route 299 and Burnt Ranch in Trinity County. The incident occurred at mile marker 12.97, prompting a swift response from emergency responders, including the CHP, Hawkins Bar Volunteer Fire Department, and Hoopa Valley Ambulance.
Upon assuming control of the situation at 7:46 p.m., CHP personnel initiated a preliminary investigation, revealing that David Wilkie, the sole operator of the motorbike, was traveling westbound on SR-299. For reasons currently under investigation, Wilkie lost control of the motorbike, which drifted off the southern side of the roadway and collided with a high rock slope. Wilkie was ejected from the vehicle and impacted the embankment, resulting in fatal injuries.
Emergency personnel and bystanders, including witnesses, endeavored to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and other life-saving interventions for approximately 30 minutes. Despite their valiant efforts, Wilkie succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased at the scene. Wilkie was wearing a Department of Transportation (DOT) authorized helmet at the time of the accident.
