Tragic Loss: Sawyer Sherk, 19, Identified as Victim in Fatal Rollover Crash at Snow Canyon State Park

Sawyer Sherk, a 19-year-old freshman at Utah Tech University, has been identified as the victim who lost his life in a fatal rollover crash on September 25 at Snow Canyon State Park. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Snow Canyon Road, where Sherk’s vehicle rolled and plummeted approximately 300 feet down a cliff, coming to rest in the parking lot near the Lava Flow Trailhead.

According to Utah State Parks spokeswoman Lindsay Higbee, the vehicle was traveling at speeds between 70 and 100 mph when it rolled, resulting in Sherk’s tragic death at the scene. Two other teens, including Kali Parkinson, a recent graduate of Fremont High School and also a freshman at Utah Tech, were injured in the crash.

Parkinson sustained multiple serious injuries and has undergone three major surgeries. She remains in intensive care at a St. George hospital and is expected to stay hospitalized for six to eight weeks. A GoFundMe campaign has been created to help cover Parkinson’s medical expenses as she recovers.

Sawyer Sherk, originally from Henderson, Nevada, had attended Coronado High School. His passing has left a void in the lives of his family, friends, and community. Utah Tech University has increased walk-in counseling services at the Booth Wellness Center for students coping with the loss.

The Washington County Accident Response Team continues to investigate the cause of the crash, and no further details have been disclosed. The family of the second injured teen has chosen to remain anonymous.

Kali Parkinson, described by friends and former teammates as generous and kind, was part of her high school lacrosse team’s state championship win last year and is currently active in flag football at Utah Tech. Her coach, Savannah Clarke, praised her for always encouraging those around her.

The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of safety and responsible driving practices. As the community mourns the loss of Sawyer Sherk, they also rally around Kali Parkinson and the other injured teen, offering support and well wishes for their recovery.

In the face of this unimaginable tragedy, the community comes together to support the families and friends of those affected. May Sawyer Sherk’s memory be a blessing, and may Kali Parkinson and the other injured teen recover fully and quickly.

The investigation into the crash continues, and further details will be shared as they become available. For now, the community focuses on healing, support, and remembrance.
