Billy Wayne Herring, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and member of the Mullins community, passed away on September 30, 2024, at the age of 74, after a prolonged period of poor health. He died peacefully at his residence, surrounded by his loving family, under the care of Crescent Hospice.

Born on April 20, 1950, in Mullins, South Carolina, Billy was the son of the late James William Graham and Bessie Richardson. He grew up in the Mullins neighborhood, where he was raised by his grandparents, the late Mr. Miles and Mrs. Janie Herring. Billy spent his life serving others, beginning his career at the age of 18 as a member of the Mullins Fire Department, where he served for many years until his retirement due to health issues.

Billy was a skilled carpenter and worked tirelessly alongside Lou’s father, Mr. James Ray, for many years. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren and loved fishing, watching Sunday NASCAR, and daily FOX News in his free time.

A devoted member of the Mullins-Marion Freewill Baptist Church, Billy made significant contributions to his hometown over the years. He is survived by his wife, Lou Ray Herring; two daughters, Erica Cook of Georgetown and Paige Herring of Mullins; beloved grandchildren, Mackenzie Cook (fiancé, Hunter Rogers), Ethan Cook, David Cook, and H.J. Rogers; siblings, Rosemary Kling, Ginger (Bob), Jerry (Martha) Jackson, Carolyn (Waine) Jernigan, Melanie (Robbin), Bonnie (Kerry) Tanner, and Paul (Arnette); close friends, Tony Rabon and Teddy Rabon; Joseph Ray, Brenda Hattaway, Pat (Jerry) Altman, Dean (Cathy) Ray; and many nieces, nephews, and colleagues from the fire department.
