Carmen Torres Obituary: A Matriarch’s Passing Leaves a Lasting Legacy
Carmen Torres, affectionately known as “Mama” to her family and the Brooklyn community, passed away on August 31, 2024, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in May 2024, Carmen faced immense challenges, yet her strength and devotion to her family remained unwavering.
As the matriarch of her family, Carmen selflessly raised her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, showering them with love and care, despite the recent losses of her granddaughter to asthma and her daughter to liver disease.
Renowned for her candor, vibrant personality, and ability to unite people, Carmen’s presence was a beacon of warmth and comfort to all who knew her.
Her passing has left a profound void in the lives of her loved ones, who will deeply miss her welcoming smile and open arms.
Carmen’s family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, are mourning her loss, as she was a constant source of love and support in their lives.
In memory of Carmen’s life, her granddaughter, Crystal Castanon, has organized a fundraiser, “Support Mama’s Final Send Off,” to help cover funeral expenses.
Generous contributions have already been made by five compassionate individuals, including Jovanni Miranda, Brenda & Jose Roman, Russell Davis, Emanuel Almanzar, and Daniel Martinez, totaling $675 towards the $7,000 goal.
The family’s aspiration is to give Mama the sendoff she deserves, reflecting the love and joy she brought to the world.
During this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Carmen Torres’ family and friends, may her memory serve as a source of strength and comfort to them.
