Deputy Brandon Cunningham obituary, death, a 30-year-old dedicated officer with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), was tragically killed in the line of duty on Saturday evening. Deputy Cunningham, who had served with the PCSO since 2020, was ambushed and shot while responding to a domestic violence dispute in Hiram.
On the evening of August 17, 2024, Deputy Cunningham, along with another deputy, was dispatched to a residence in a subdivision in Hiram around 6:15 p.m. Upon arrival, the deputies were met with a violent and dangerous situation. The male suspect involved in the domestic violence dispute opened fire on the deputies and other officers, resulting in a “hail of bullets.”
Tragically, Deputy Cunningham was struck by gunfire and, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he passed away at the hospital from his injuries. The suspect involved in the shooting took his own life following the attack. The victim of the domestic violence dispute was also shot and has been transported to an Atlanta hospital, where she is in stable condition and receiving treatment.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Deputy Cunningham was a valued member of the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, known for his commitment to serving and protecting the community. He leaves behind two young children, and his loss is deeply felt by all who knew him.

The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement on social media: “Tonight has been one of the hardest in the history of the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office.
