Tragic Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Life of Unidentified Driver on Route 201 in Richmond, Maine; William Miller IV Survives with Minor Injuries.
A devastating motor vehicle accident occurred on Route 201, Brunswick Road, in Richmond, Maine, at approximately 6:01 a.m., resulting in the loss of life and leaving another driver with minor injuries. The Sagadahoc County Communications Center received reports of the accident, which involved two pickup trucks, one of which was on fire and the other overturned.
First responders from the Richmond Fire Department and a deputy from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene to find the lane blocked by a pickup truck turned on its side and another pickup truck in the ditch, completely consumed in flames. Firefighters quickly began attempting to put out the fire, but unfortunately, the operator of the vehicle was stuck inside and died in the fire.
The pickup truck on fire was identified as a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, and the operator’s body has been transferred to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for identification. William Miller IV, 58, of Richmond, was the owner and operator of the overturned pickup truck, a 2003 Ford F-250, and suffered minor injuries.
According to the preliminary investigation, the Chevrolet Silverado was traveling north on Route 201 when it crossed the center line and into the path of the Ford F-250, which attempted to avoid the incident. The accident investigation is still underway, with Deputy William Hagan of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office conducting the investigation and Det. Brian Carlton reconstructing the crash.
The Topsham Police Department, Maine State Police, and the Richmond Police Department all assisted in the investigation and were present at the scene. Route 201, Brunswick Road, was closed for nearly 4 ½ hours, with traffic being detoured.
