A 2022 Freightliner tractor-trailer slowed down for traffic, and a 2000 GMC van carrying Gearhart, another adult, and a juvenile traveling directly behind the truck collided with the rear of the trailer, resulting in fatal injuries for Gearhart.

The van caught fire, leading several motorists to rescue an adult and the juvenile from the vehicle. The other adult taken from the van was transported in stable condition to OhioHealth Grant Hospital, while the juvenile was taken in stable condition to Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The driver of the tractor-trailer was unharmed in the accident.
