Hopkins was arrested on a preliminary charge of first-degree murder, marking his second arrest in connection with the incident. He was previously arrested for his alleged involvement in the shooting at the after-prom party, which resulted in one person sustaining life-threatening injuries.
Taylor was fatally shot on April 30, after Peoria Police officers on patrol in the 100 block of East Forrest Hill Avenue heard gunshots around 7:21 p.m. Another individual, Messiah Carpenter, has also been arrested and faces a murder charge in relation to this case.
The incident occurred at the Valley Lakes Center in Chillicothe, where over 100 teenagers were present at the party, and 48 gunshots were fired. Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins believes the incident was entirely gang-related.
Hopkins was ordered to remain in custody after firearms were confiscated during a raid in June. Peoria County prosecutors have indicated that some of the firearms seized from a residence in West Peoria may be linked to 20 recent shootings.
