Edward Carroll Davis, Martha Warren Davis, Linda Warren Whitehurst, William Carroll Tucker, Elizabeth Sharon Tucker Obituary: Tragic Loss of Five Lives in Fatal Collision on Interstate 95, Investigation Underway.

Edward Carroll Davis, 68, Martha Warren Davis, 69, Linda Warren Whitehurst, 80, William Carroll Tucker, 72, and Elizabeth Sharon Tucker, 66, tragically lost their lives in a fatal collision on Interstate 95 in Wilson County, North Carolina. The incident involved three tractor-trailers and two sport utility vehicles, resulting in one of the most devastating crashes in recent history.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol have initiated an inquiry into the collision, which occurred on a segment of I-95 northbound close to Mile Marker 114.5. According to officials, maintenance work was being carried out by NCDOT at the time, resulting in a lane closure.

The Highway Patrol reported that a 2020 Freightliner tractor-trailer transporting orange juice, driven by Charles Haskell, failed to decelerate as traffic slowed down ahead. The truck collided with the rear of a 2013 Chevy Tahoe, then hit a 2017 Toyota Rav-4, a 2024 Kenworth tractor-trailer, and a 2014 International tractor-trailer. The orange juice truck eventually came to a stop in the northbound travel lanes and caught fire.

All three occupants of the Tahoe lost their lives. NCSHP identified them as driver Edward Carroll Davis, 68, of Greenville, front passenger Martha Warren Davis, 69, of Greenville, and rear passenger Linda Warren Whitehurst, 80, of Robersonville. Two individuals in the Rav-4 also perished. Driver William Carroll Tucker, 72, of Hephzibah, Georgia, and front passenger Elizabeth Sharon Tucker, 66, of Hephzibah, Georgia.

The orange-juice truck driver, Charles Haskell, received treatment for minor injuries at Wilson Medical Center. Following his release, Haskell was apprehended and charged with five counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. He was transported to the Wilson County Detention Center and granted a $25,000 secured bond.

Haskell was employed by Double J Transport LLC, a company with no safety concerns. However, Haskell had two prior DUI charges. State troopers indicated that alcohol and/or drug impairment was not suspected in this incident, but the initial investigation revealed that speed played a role.

The Kenworth truck driver, a 43-year-old man from Newberry, South Carolina, was treated for minor injuries. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The community is urged to come together to support the families of the victims and advocate for measures to prevent such tragedies in the future. The loss of five lives in this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to remain vigilant and cautious while operating vehicles.

In the days and weeks to come, the community will come together to celebrate the lives and legacies of Edward Carroll Davis, Martha Warren Davis, Linda Warren Whitehurst, William Carroll Tucker, and Elizabeth Sharon Tucker. Their tragic passing has left a lasting impact on the community, but their memories will continue to inspire others.
