According to Patrolman D.W. Lester’s report, the incident began when he spotted the motorcycle just after 9 p.m. and recorded its speed on radar at 95 mph. Despite Lester’s attempt to stop the motorcycle, the driver turned off Rt. 460 onto Leatherwood Lane, then proceeded onto College Avenue and Maryland Avenue at a high speed.
As the driver tried to make a right turn at the intersection of Maryland Avenue and Montclair Street while traveling at 65 mph, he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed in front of TLC Dentistry. McNutt was transported to WVU Princeton Community Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The police investigation revealed that McNutt was a member of a white supremacy group and was wanted on multiple felony charges in Greeneville, Tenn. The motorcycle, a Harley Davidson, appeared to be stolen, as there was no record of it in the system, and the vehicle identification number had been tampered with.
