Colin Ocker, aged 50, and Jared Dale Hunt, aged 25, have been identified as the two individuals who lost their lives in a tragic boating incident that occurred in the Port Aransas Ship Channel over the weekend. The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the identities of the victims.

On Saturday morning, the Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi received a distress call via VHF-FM channel 16 from a helpful Samaritan, reporting a collision between a recreational vessel and a commercial tanker. The Coast Guard immediately launched an MH-65 helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi and a 29-foot Response Boat from Coast Guard Station Port Aransas to search for the missing boaters.

Over the course of approximately 44 hours, rescue teams from the Coast Guard and local agencies scoured more than 127 square miles by air and sea. A good Samaritan and a pilot boat retrieved three individuals from the water, one of whom was deceased. Two of the survivors were transferred to receive Emergency Medical Assistance.

The search efforts were a joint operation between the Coast Guard Corpus Christi, Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi, Coast Guard Station Port Aransas, Coast Guard Cutter Manta, Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Aransas Pass Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Port of Corpus Christi Police Department.
