Lynn Cunningham, a prominent figure in Emporia, Kansas, known for her extensive career in real estate, banking, and mortgage lending, as well as her tireless dedication to various community organizations, tragically passed away on Thursday. The community is still reeling from the news of her sudden and unexpected death.

Lynn was returning from a professional training session in Denver when she was involved in a single-vehicle accident. Details surrounding the incident are still forthcoming, but the impact of her loss is already being deeply felt throughout the community. Lynn Cunningham’s impact extended far beyond her professional achievements. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, wife, and community steward, known for her unwavering dedication to various community organizations.

Her colleagues at RE/MAX Ek Real Estate, where she was an esteemed agent, expressed profound sadness over her sudden passing. Jeff Kitselman, co-owner of RE/MAX Ek Real Estate, highlighted Lynn’s role as a beloved colleague and community leader, stating, “Lynn was more than a friend to all of us here, a mother, a grandmother, a wife, a community steward, and was truly a great human being that has left us way too soon.”

Lynn Cunningham’s commitment to community service was evident in her involvement with various organizations. She served as the ‘voice’ of the Girl Scouts in Lyon, Chase, and 13 other counties in Kansas, managing media relations with dedication and grace. Her involvement as a Boy Scout Merit Badge Counselor, Eagle Board Advisor, and District Committee Chair further underscored her commitment to youth development and community service.

In addition to her roles with scouting organizations, Lynn was deeply involved in local Chambers of Commerce and nonprofit initiatives. She served as president of the Chase County Chamber of Commerce and played a pivotal role in fundraising campaigns for Crosswinds Counseling & Wellness. Lynn was also an owner of The Splash Pad, a community initiative launched earlier this year, demonstrating her passion for creating inclusive and vibrant community spaces.

Her leadership extended to philanthropic efforts as well. Lynn Cunningham served as the United Way of the Flint Hills’ Drive Chair for the 2023-24 campaign, which successfully raised nearly $500,000 to support local initiatives and services. Her contributions to the United Way went beyond financial support; she provided strategic guidance and unwavering support, earning deep respect from colleagues and volunteers alike.

The community is coming together to honor Lynn’s memory and celebrate her remarkable legacy of service and dedication to Emporia and beyond.
